Moreno Valley College faculty Robert Loya and district safety coordinator Sherry Stone have been selected to participate in the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mentor-Connect program, designed to help community college faculty develop grant funding opportunities from the NSF's Advanced Technological Education (ATE) program. Loya, an assistant professor in Business Administration, and Stone, Riverside Community College District's coordinator of Safety & Emergency Planning, said they are honored to have been selected and look forward to learning and developing grant proposals that will assist the District and the cyber world. "Our grant envisions opening pathways for students who are career minded in the area of homeland security or information," Loya said. "With all the problems we are seeing in our society today the need for training people in these areas are of great importance. Our government, every company and the home computer user should be alerted to the potential political and technical issues we face every day." Stone agreed with Loya, saying, "Current STEM programs at Moreno Valley College have demonstrated that our students have the desire, drive and intelligence to excel in the cyber security. I am excited to couple my knowledge of homeland security and grant management with Professor Loya's digital security and technical expertise. I hope to be a small part of them becoming the individuals who keep us safe in the future."
