Telephone Town Hall Meeting Reaches Thousands of Parents

Try to get busy parents to attend an evening meeting at the school district office and the turnout might be 10 or 20. But make it more convenient by calling them at home and thousands will take part, for at least part of the meeting. That’s what happened Tuesday, June 3, when Superintendent Dr. Judy D. White called all MVUSD parents to talk about the district’s proposed new Strategic Plan. “We were pleased that thousands of parents were so eager to discuss their children’s education that they made time for us in their busy schedules,” said Dr. White. “In one hour we were able to take 19 questions from parents while almost 500 other parents stayed on the line to listen to the entire conversation.” Dr. White added that the conversation could have gone on much longer given the number of questions that were waiting to be asked. Questions that could not be answered due to time constraints are being forwarded to her via e-mail. The district’s new Strategic Plan was created over eight months by a committee including students, parents, teachers, classified staff, local business owners, members of faith communities, representatives of local colleges, district administrators and School Board members. The School Board will take action on the plan at its June 17 meeting. The Telephone Town Hall Meeting was so successful that it may become a regular event, allowing for more direct communication with parents about a variety of education matters. A recording of the entire one-hour call is available here: .
