Volunteers Needed for El Niño Flooding Preparedness Efforts

The City of Moreno Valley is currently accepting applications for volunteers to assist with preparedness efforts in anticipation of severe flooding. A strong El Niño season will most likely occur between Dec. 2015 and Feb. 2016 in the Southern California region, according to the www.climate.gov update. Volunteer opportunities will include: • Filling sandbags for community and city use • Stacking sandbags at prepositioned locations • Preliminary Damage Assessment These efforts will enhance and protect the community against future flooding damage and weather related emergencies. All volunteers who are successful in the selection process will receive all necessary training to carry out the tasks outlined above. How to become an Office of Emergency Management volunteer: • Obtain a volunteer application from www.moval.org • Be at least 18 years of age • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent • Possess a valid California Driver License and proof of insurance • Volunteer must not have a record of conviction of a serious offense, or numerous convictions of minor offenses For more information regarding the Volunteer Program, please contact the Office of Emergency Management and Volunteer Services at 951-413-3805 or by email at jacquelynl@moval.org.
