The late summer heat and dry conditions that have plagued Southern California ignited yet another fast-moving wildfire, this time near the city of Corona. What began as a seemingly small brush fire, dubbed the Pyrite Fire, quickly escalated, forcing evacuations and a swift response from fire agencies across the region.

The fire ignited on Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 5:19 PM, near the intersection of Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive in Jurupa Valley. Fueled by "light flashy fuels," the blaze spread with alarming speed, prompting authorities to issue mandatory evacuation orders for several zones. The fiery spectacle, visible for miles, created an urgent and tense situation for residents and first responders alike.

Firefighting crews, including ground personnel and a fleet of helicopters, worked tirelessly through the night to battle the flames. They deployed water drops and fire retardant to slow the fire's relentless advance. After burning for several days, the Pyrite Fire was declared 100% contained as of September 9, 2025. In the end, it had scorched 551 acres in Riverside County. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries or structural damage.

The swift containment of the Pyrite Fire is a testament to the dedication of the firefighters who put their lives on the line to protect communities.
