Senior Center Fall Festival Yields Laughs

The Moreno Valley Senior Center threw a Fall Festival on Thursday, Sept. 25. Starting in the afternoon, there were light refreshments including Halloween cookies and apple cider for attendees. The room was decorated with orange and black colors, scarecrows, pumpkins, and little decorated prizes that everyone would have an opportunity to win. Games included bowling, beanbags, competitive “broom-ing” and trying to get Ping-Pong balls into small water cups. The broom-ing was a competitive activity; participants had a rug set up with fall colored leaves on it and two people would race to see who could sweep the leaves off of their rug the fastest. The challenging part was that the leaves would get stuck on the rug, so it was not easy for the broom to sweep them off, no matter how hard or fast you swept. Undoubtedly, this was the most popular game at the festival. Everyone seemed to join in, and when they did, the whole room would stop to root for each person. Joseph L. Jones III, the Senior Citizens Center Coordinator, although running the bowling area, would cheer for both players. “Let's go! Faster, go faster!” he would say while rooting for them. The winner of each game would win a prize that was set up at the stage area. The prizes consisted of goodies in a cup with an orange balloon stuck inside that had a pumpkin face drawn on it.
