Amateur Radio Volunteers Love "Hamming" it Up!

By City of Moreno Valley

Among the many ways for MoVal residents to volunteer to make our City even better, one of the coolest has to be ACES/RACES, a volunteer program supervised by the Office of Emergency Management. Using state-of-the-art ham radio technology, these vital volunteers are ready to provide communications support during both emergency incidents and routine events.

Our RACES (Radio Amateur Communications Emergency Services) team of volunteers gathered at Community Park recently to participate in Field Day, an annual national amateur radio systems exercise that encourages emergency communication preparedness among radio operators. RACES used this valuable opportunity to demonstrate the amazing capabilities and value of amateur radio. This year, the team was able to reach colleagues as far away as New Mexico!

For more information about the ACES/RACES volunteer program, please contact the Office of Emergency Management at 951-413-3800.
