Saturday, Nov. 8, Garden Path Ministries Inc. (GPM) and Oasis Community Church (OCC) presented their First Annual Classic Car Show and Fundraiser.
GPM, which offers both free and pay-what-you-can programs and services to men and women in transition and in-crisis situations, hosted the event in an effort to keep the centers and their programs open and affordable to those in need. The OCC provided the venue and its youth group provided snacks and a large kid’s craft table. Vendors including IEHP, John's Incredible Pizza Company, Calico Mountain Cookies, and Tera’s Treasures also came out to show support and raise money for GPM.
Laughs, raffles, cars, activities, and foods entertained families during the event. Live music was provided by Carmine Vesey, professional musician and brother of GPM's president Teddi Vesey. Attendees received prizes, winnings from a 50/50 drawing, and voted in an all-day, cumulative People’s Choice Awards.
Categories for the Car Show People's Choice Awards included best classic car, best paint job, best engine, and many more. Best chili in the cook-off went to Pastor Bob Moore, who jokingly said, “I told my wife I could cook,” as he accepted his trophy. Many other winners celebrated with various “happy dances” as they collected their trophies. Prizes included music classes, services, toasters, and more. GPM and the community look forward to an even larger event next year, stating that, “each year will get better.”
