Elks Cinco de Mayo Event Deemed a Success

Over 60 Elk members and friends attended a gala Cinco de Mayo event at the Moreno Valley Elks Lodge on May 3, 2014. Those in attendance were treated to Maria’s famous fajitas, rice, beans, salad and dessert – an authentic Mexican feast! Maria Lizarraga and her team decorated, cooked, served and washed dishes! After dinner, folkloric dancers Por Amor Amis Raices, managed by Blanca Regalado, provided lively and entertaining dancing representing many parts of Mexico. The colorful costumes were amazing! Next, gift baskets were raffled and music and dancing followed. The event ended on a serious note with Elk members and friends joining hands and forming a giant circle around the room for a moment of silence. Finally, Gerald Troxel, Elk Officer, recited the Elk Eleven O’clock Toast. The toast reminds Elk members that, living or dead, no matter what their lot in life may be, they will never be forgotten or forsaken. As always, a portion of the proceeds go into the Moreno Valley Elks Charity account which currently is providing scholarship monies for six local high school seniors who were winners of the local lodge Most Valuable Scholarship competition. The Scholarship Awards Dinner will be held on May 24, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Moreno Valley Elks Lodge on Day Street. For more information contact Judy Smith at 951-242-6419.
