Sunnymead Middle School Student Chosen for Prestigious Tech Trek Science Camp

Tech Trek Science and Math Camp is unique in several ways: You can’t buy your way in; attendance is by recommendation and invitation only; and it’s strictly a girls-only event. So you can imagine how exciting it must be for Sunnymead Middle School student Imani Roberts, who recently found out she’s been chosen to attend the week-long camp at UC San Diego this summer. Tech Trek, sponsored by the American Association of University Women, which advocates for equity for girls and women, is designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in girls who will enter eighth grade in the fall. It features hands-on activities in math, science and related fields. Campers get to experience college life for a week, including living with someone other than a sibling or a relative, sharing community facilities, eating dining-hall meals and exploring the campus. Most important, the girls will spend a week interacting with women for whom a high degree of science, mathematics or computer expertise is part of their daily lives. Congratulations, Imani!
