10th Annual Awards Gala Deemed a Success

Mission Inn was the recent site of action for the Black Chamber of Commerce's 10th Annual Gala where the organization honored its supporters, members, and outstanding community members. Held on Good Friday, the Gala brought together key figures from throughout the community including Supervisor Marian Ashley, Riverside Sheriff Stanley Sniff, Bishop Sykes of Crossword Church, and the City of Moreno Valley's Community & Economic Development Director, John Terrell . Business owner Wraymond Sawyer who opened the first Juice It Up in Moreno Valley, located off of Day Street, was recognized. Community & Economic Development Director John Terrell was recognize for his tireless efforts to better serve the community. Lea Petersen, who represented Southern Gas Co. and serves on the Chamber’s Board of Directors was recognized. Supervisor Marian Ashley was thanked multiple times for various projects involved with the Chambers. Sheriff Stanley Sniff served as the gracious host for the Gala. Board of Directors member Jacqui Miller shared that she was "Thankful for the support and happy for the opportunity to recognize everyone.” Chamber President Linda Wright, “The Lady in Red”, motivated the room by telling of the Chambers humble beginnings. Explaining “None of it would exist if it wasn’t for the devoted volunteers and board of directors" of which she would name one by one, thanking everyone for their contributions. A woman who stands about 4'11" but has such a big heart, left the room inspired and feeling accomplished.
