From Monday, March 3, through Friday, March 7, the Moreno Valley Unified Community Education Center will proudly host "Rise Above," a free, traveling history exhibit that uses a unique 180-degree movie screen to tell the fascinating story of America's first African-American military pilots and how they "rose above" the prevailing racial discrimination of the 1940s and distinguished themselves with their service in World War II. Known as the Tuskegee Airmen, they flew and fought in Europe and North Africa, completing 15,000 sorties in approximately 1,500 missions, destroying more than 260 enemy aircraft, sinking one enemy destroyer, and demolishing numerous enemy installations. Many MVUSD students will be visiting the free exhibit during the week, but it also will be open to the public each day from 4-6 p.m. A public welcoming event is set for Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. You can learn more about the exhibit at www.redtail.org Moreno Valley Unified School District is the third-largest school district in Riverside County, serving approximately 35,000 students in grades K-12 at 39 schools.
