City Completes Innovative Traffic Improvements

By City of Moreno Valley

The City recently completed roadway marking improvements on Gentian Avenue from Kitching Street to Lasselle Street.  The changes to the lane stripes will improve pedestrian and driver safety, as well as create space for active and healthy modes of transportation.

Other improvements included the installation of buffered bike lanes with enhanced bikeway markings, as part of the City’s Bicycle Master Plan. This enhancement was achieved through the implementation of a “road diet,” which is a process that reconfigures roadway striping. The project also included traffic signal detection improvements, and the installation of high-visibility continental-style crosswalk striping, which aids in pedestrian visibility. Studies indicate decreased collisions when traffic calming strategies such as “road diets” and upgraded crosswalk striping are implemented.

The project was made possible by a grant awarded from the Riverside County Transportation Commission’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities program, which was provided through the State of California’s Transportation Development Act.
