Congressman Mark Takano recently participated in Riverside Unified's Connecting Classrooms to Congress annual 12th-grade student research program.

This year's research focused on climate change policy, including its relationship to governance and economic policy.

Congressman Takano's participation in the virtual town hall at the Martin Luther King High School auditorium, marks the culmination of the research program for the 2022-2023 school year. Participating seniors asked questions about the content they learned and got perspective on legislative matters.

Connecting Classrooms to Congress helps students develop:

  • Analytical writing
  • Ability to display integrative complexity
  • Knowledge of policy and the structure and operations of government
  • Civic dispositions

"Thank you to Congressman Takano for participating in Connecting Classrooms to Congress," said Carolyn Power, Instructional Services Specialist. "His willingness to answer student questions is an impactful way to end research work and inspire continued civic engagement beyond high school."
