March Mountain High School introduced a new Manufacturing and Logistics CTE (Career and Technical Education) Pathway program during the summer school term. This CTE course was led by teacher Jeff Allbee. The Manufacturing and Logistics Pathway leads students into the workforce with introductory skills that enable them to fill viable roles within aerospace, manufacturing, and logistics.
Over the summer, students spent time learning safety and proper power tool use by completing a variety of projects. Each student completed several individual and group projects combining the skills they were learning. The final project required the students to design and build a pinewood derby car based on their research. They were then able to test and modify their cars on a track, focusing on aerodynamics, weight distribution and varying shapes and configurations. On the last day of summer, school the group held a race to determine which car was the fastest. Some of the students received special awards for different categories.
“A high-quality CTE pathway, like this new Manufacturing and Logistics program, is critical to meeting the district’s mission of preparing students to be college and/or career ready. This program will produce graduates with 21st-century skills to be used in growing and career crucial fields,” said Kristen Hunter, Director of College and Career Ready at MVUSD.
The newest pathway now brings the district’s total of CTE programs to 26. Each pathway gives students work-based experience toward a future career and/or college in their selected field.
