Steve Adams was born in Amarillo, Texas in August of 1952. He is the youngest of the four children of Dorothy and Major William E. Adams. His family moved around the country until 1958 when William was sent to March AFB just outside of Riverside, Calif. Steve attended school locally from elementary through high school, and then continued on to Riverside Community College and the University of California, Riverside. Steve married in 1971, and in 1982 his daughter, Stephanie was born. Steve’s first marriage ended in 1994 and he remained single until May 16, 2009 when he met the love of his life and his soul mate, Maryann Redden. Steve and Maryann married on May 16, 2010 at the very spot and time they met one year earlier. Steve joined the Corona Police Department in May of 1971, and then transferred to the Riverside Police Department in April of 1972. He served on the Gang Task Force and Metro SWAT Teams until injuries he sustained in the line of duty forced his retirement from the force in April of 1985. Both of Steve’s parents have passed – his mother the night before his first election to Riverside City Council in 2003, and his father April of 2013. They are deeply missed every day, but live on in the strong sense of community service and the importance of family that they instilled in their children. After retiring from the police department, Steve tapped into his entrepreneurial spirit and embarked upon a successful career in the business world. He remained active in finance until his first election to the Riverside City Council in 2003, where he is now serving his third term.
