As part of our mission to produce college and career ready graduates, Moreno Valley Unified School District hosted district-wide SAT and PSAT testing on Wednesday. The SAT test was administered to all 2,570 12th grade students at all high schools and the PSAT test was given to 6,337 10th- and 11th-graders in addition to 2,750 8th-graders.

The exams were given at no cost to students and subsidized by the district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan. The SAT exam is the nation’s most widely used admissions test for colleges and universities testing reading, writing and mathematics.

The 8th, 10th and 11th graders took the PSAT test to better prepare them for the SAT test and to gain feedback so the students can focus on skills they will need to enter college.

The PSAT test is also used by 11th-graders to enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The PSAT testing is also linked with the free resource Khan Academy, which provides students a personalized SAT practice program based on their PSAT results.

“While the SAT is not the only factor in determining college readiness, it does play a role in college admissions. By offering the test to all students free of charge, we are championing equity for all students by making sure each student gets what they need to be ready for the future,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora.
