MORENO VALLEY>> On Wednesday, Feb. 22, officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department and community members came together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. Coffee with a Cop provides an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Moreno Valley neighborhoods, and the recent meeting was a success, according to a news release from the City of Moreno Valley. "We would like to thank all of the residents who participated and Burger Town USA for its hospitality. We hope you can join our Moreno Valley police officers for the next Coffee with a Cop," the statement said. The event allows for the public to come together to ask questions and build relationships with the men and women who are serving the city. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction, according to a news release. “We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” said Police Chief Joel Ontiveros. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.” Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
