MVUSD Students Graduate at Higher Rate

MORENO VALLEY>> Continuing a steady six-year trend, Moreno Valley Unified School District's graduation rate has increased yet again, climbing another 1.4% to 87.6%. The increase keeps the district’s graduation rate well ahead of both the state and national rate of 83.2%. The new state results show a 21.9% increase in MVUSD’s graduation rate since 2010.  

“Our mission statement commits us to seeing that all students will graduate ready for college and/or career, and we’re making tremendous progress toward that goal,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora.  “We’re closing the achievement gap in the process.” 

Kedziora also noted the school district has some challenges, including math achievement at the middle and high school levels.

“It’s a problem all over the country, but we take no comfort from that fact,” he said. “We need to do a better job of teaching our students how to appreciate and excel in mathematics, and we’re working hard on that right now.”

The biggest graduation-rate gain at MVUSD this year (3.1%) was made by Valley View High School, bringing their graduation rate up to 93.8%.

The state data also shows the MVUSD drop-out rate declining another 0.8%. At just 7.1%, MVUSD’s drop-out rate is significantly lower than the state average of 9.8%.
