At recent ceremonies in Riverside, Landmark Middle School teacher Rachel Quintanar was chosen as the California League of Middle Schools (CLMS) Region 10 Teacher of the Year. One of 12 Region 10 finalists, Quintanar was nominated by Principal Dr. Vicky Dudek for her work with English Learners. “Students who have been classified as English Learners for years are using mature academic language, are passionate about their learning, and are engaged beyond belief,” said Dudek. “Students’ lives have changed because of her.” The CLMS “Educator of the Year” award is given annually to 11 California middle-school educators, representing different regions, who exemplify educational excellence and have made significant efforts to implement elements of educational reform in middle schools. Nominees selected to represent each region will be honored at the CLMS Annual Conference this winter. CLMS Region 10 includes schools in Riverside, Inyo, Mono and San Bernardino counties.
