The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter's Fido's Fitness Challenge on Saturday, April 7 is the perfect excuse to head outdoors for some exercise with your pet - and help raise money to support the animals awaiting adoption at the animal shelter.

Bring your pet on a leash and join in the fitness and fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 7 at Towngate Memorial Park to participate in the Fido's Fitness Challenge Walk-a-Thon sponsored by the Western Riverside Council of Governments.

Participants can collect donation pledges from their friends, family members and fellow animal lovers for each lap they complete on the designated walking track at Towngate Memorial Park. The track is located next to the Towngate Community Center off of Arbor Park Lane and Eucalyptus Avenue.

Your sponsors can help you with a donation of a flat fee or pledge a dollar amount per completed lap.

100% of the donations raised from your pledges will help the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter provide comfort to the animals while in their care and help fund programs that benefit the community including:

• Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Services for Residents

• Complicated Medical Procedures for Injured Pets

• Trap Neuter Release Feral Cat Program

Prizes will be awarded to participants in the following categories:

• Most sponsors

• Largest pet

• Smallest pet

• Most laps completed

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter will also have animals on site for adoption at a deeply discounted rate of $30 for dogs and $15 for cats, which includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations and a microchip.

The same adoption discounts will be offered at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter for all available dogs and cats on Saturday, April 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
