The graduation rate at all Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) high schools for the 2016-2017 year increased to 87.8 percent from 87.7 percent despite a new calculation that removes Adult Education students from rate. The rate is 5.1 percent higher than the California average. Since 2010, MVUSD has increased the graduation rate by 22.1 percent. The release of the data from the California Department of Education was delayed by the new calculation of the rates.

Three comprehensive high schools have graduation rates above 90 percent; Valley View High School, 93.9; Canyon Springs High School 93.6, Vista del Lago High School 92.6. Student groups with significant increases in graduation rate include African American students with a 1.1 percent increase and English Learner students with a 0.7 percent increase.

“We are thrilled with the tremendous progress we continue to make toward our goal to see all students graduate high school ready for college and/or a career,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora.

“The state expected a drop of 2 to 3 percent in District graduation rates after the introduction of new calculations,” Kedziora noted, “Our slight increase shows that we are providing the support students need to be successful in school.”

In addition to a steadily increasing graduation rate, the District’s dropout rate has decreased by 15.9 percent since 2010 and now stands at 6 percent.

“The Board of Education is happy to see the new graduation rates and dropout rates for Moreno Valley Unified School District,” said Board President Susan Smith. “Our teachers, counselors and administration have worked extremely hard to ensure our students leave our district with a diploma in hand. This is something the entire community should be very proud of.”

ABOUT MVUSD:  Moreno Valley Unified School District is the third-largest school district in Riverside County and the 23rd largest in California, educating more than 33,000 students in grades TK-12 at 40 schools.  Our graduation rate exceeds both the state and national averages.
