Naomi Aurora Huerta, at just 14 years old, is already making her mark both in the classroom and on the field. A Freshman at Grand Terrace High School, Naomi maintains a 3.5 GPA while balancing academics, athletics, hobbies, and time with the people who mean the most to her.
Naomi’s athletic journey began at just 5 years old when she started playing softball. Over the years, she played with SoCal Athletics, developing her skills as an outfielder and middle infielder. Today, Naomi is also making an impact as a member of the Grand Terrace High School Girls Flag Football team, where she plays safety rusher and slot.
One of Naomi’s biggest athletic highlights so far came during the Lady Titans’ game against Rim of the World, where she recorded both a touchdown and interceptions, showcasing her ability to make big plays when her team needs them most.
Naomi credits much of her development and preparation to Coach Oakley, who she says has taught her everything she knows about the game. She appreciates that he believes in her, holds her accountable, and expects his players to give their best effort. That discipline and preparation have helped Naomi understand what it takes to be ready when game time arrives.
Outside of sports, Naomi enjoys listening to music and spending time with her friends and family. For Naomi, having a strong support system has played an important role in helping her stay focused and motivated.
When asked who inspires her the most, Naomi didn’t hesitate to name her parents. “My parents have been my biggest influences by always supporting me and holding me accountable for my actions and helping me stay on top of my grades before I focus on anything else,” she shared. Naomi also credits her dad as an important influence in her decision to join flag football.
Looking toward the future, Naomi hopes to attend college and pursue a career as an Ultrasound Technician or explore a career in Cosmetology. She also has an interest in working with special education students, showing that her goals extend beyond athletics and into making a difference in the lives of others.
One of Naomi’s favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” The verse reflects the faith, determination, and mindset she carries with her both on and off the field.
Naomi also wanted to send a special shoutout to her friends, teammates, parents, and Coach Oakley for their support and encouragement.
This is my first year watching Naomi compete on the Grand Terrace High School girls flag football team, and seeing her confidence, determination, and ability to make an impact on the field has been nothing short of inspiring. At only 14 years old, she is already showing the qualities of a dedicated student-athlete and putting in the work, accepting accountability, and continuing to grow with every game.
