Kaiser Permanente Rated Among Nation’s Best Health Plans

Kaiser Permanente has been rated among the nation’s best health plans for overall patient experience,  treatment, prevention and equity by the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) annual report released this month, including when it comes to providing expert, coordinated care and outstanding service.

According to the 2023 NCQA’s annual report, Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s commercial and Medicare plans were rated the highest among its competitors in its geographic area that includes Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura and Kern counties.

For 2023, NCQA analyzed a total of nearly 1,100 plans (commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid). All eight of Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare plans and three of its commercial plans achieved 4.5 stars or higher, a remarkable accomplishment given that only 7% of the nation’s plans rated 4.5 stars or higher.

In addition, Kaiser Permanente had more 5-star or 4.5-star plans than any other health care organization for the eighth ratings cycle in a row.

“These results are a testament to the steadfast commitment and dedication of Kaiser Permanente physicians, nurses and employees going the extra mile to care for our members and patients,” said Michelle Gaskill-Hames, president, Kaiser Permanente Southern California and Hawaii, Health Plan and Hospitals.

“The doctors at Kaiser Permanente go above and beyond the call of duty every day to provide high-quality care to their patients, and that commitment is one important factor contributing to these remarkable NCQA ratings,” said Dr. Ramin Davidoff, executive medical director for the Southern California and Hawaii Permanente Medical Groups.

NCQA is a private, nonprofit organization that works to improve health care quality. NCQA ratings are based on a number of measures that assess how each plan performs when it comes to patient experience, treatment, prevention and equity. It primarily used the 2022 Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, or HEDIS®, to establish its ratings. HEDIS is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care.
