The Kaiser Permanente Riverside management team recently held a leadership meeting and as part of their connection to the community, adopted Moreno Valley Unified School District to provide students with much-needed shoes.

Board of Education Vice President Jesús Holguín, Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora, Wellness Center Liaison Connie Edwards and Student Assistant Plan Sub Counselor Mayra Arroyo-Rodriguez were on hand to receive the shoes in front of the group’s conference at the Riverside Convention Center.

Attendees of the conference were asked to bring a pair of shoes to donate to the district’s Wellness Center. They responded with 300 pairs to provide to students in need. The shoes will be distributed to families on a list at the center.

“We are very happy to have a group of community members willing to help our students be in school every day,” said Board Vice President Jesús Holguín. “All of us on the Board of Education thank Kaiser Permanente for their investment in our community.”

The Wellness Center provides services to families in need within MVUSD. In the first six months of operation, the center has had about 1000 families stop in.

The center offers parenting classes, distributes backpacks with school supplies and contains a clothes closet for families with emergency needs due to fire, theft, etc.

The Community Wellness Center is located at Creekside Elementary School for all families in the district. It is open for walk-ins Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
