Lutheran Social Services of Southern California (LSSSC) - a leading provider of social services programs in Southern California – announces former San Bernardino council member Damon L. Alexander, Th.M, MPA to its board of directors.

Alexander has been a strong proponent of LSSSC services in San Bernardino throughout his tenure on the City Council and major advocate in the collaboration to fund and build the $34.9 million Community Wellness Campus in the city.

A former United States Marine, Alexander was the first African American to win a seat on the San Bernardino City Council 7th Ward in the city’s 156-year history serving from 2020 - 2024. He initially graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from the University of La Verne and went on earn Masters degrees from the Sacramento Theology Seminary & Bible College and National University in Public Administration. He completed the prestigious Leadership Institute at Harvard University and has been an active and proud public servant for most of his life.
He is the founding President of 100 Black Men of America (Inland Empire Chapter), a Past Commander of the 25th District of California of the American Legion (San Bernardino County) and a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Alexander previously held positions with the United States Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) where he served for 25 years. He was a professor of Political Science and Criminal Justice at the University of Phoenix and served on the board for the Richard T. Fields Bar Association Foundation, past President of the North End Neighborhood Association, past chair of the San Bernardino Police and Cannabis Commissions and is the First VP of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra.
Since 1944, the faith-based nonprofit Lutheran Social Services of Southern Calif. has focused on providing families and communities with emergency, social services and transitional services with a goal of helping them reach self-sufficiency.
