Mayor's Message: Back to School

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Moreno Valley teachers and students are back to school this week. As an educator, this was always the most exciting time of the year for me. For teachers, there is nothing better than seeing young and eager students take their seats on the first day of class to embark on an academic journey. Education is an immensely rewarding profession, not monetarily, but emotionally. There are few joys in life greater than watching a student solve a complex equation, score well on a test, or overcome a learning disability to graduate. Those of us who have the pleasure of teaching get to experience these joys regularly.

I would also like to take this opportunity to commend Moreno Valley parents for the patience, dedication, and hard work they exhibited throughout the previous school year, as most children learned remotely. Now, as our students return to classrooms in a unique learning environment, we must make sure their safety is our top priority. The pandemic may have impacted the way our children learn, but it mustn’t impact their love of learning. So, I ask that we stick together to support students, teachers, and parents as they embark upon this school year. My hope is that we keep the spirit of “we’re all in this together” as a perpetual theme for our community.

I wish all of our students, teachers, and parents a very successful school year!
