Mayor's Message: Conference of Mayors

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez
Mayor of Moreno Valley
01/25/2022 at 04:21 PM

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Last week, Moreno Valley came to DC.

I had the honor of joining Mayors from across the country in meeting with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden during the annual Conference of Mayors in Washington, DC.

It’s always a pleasure to join my fellow Mayors in our nation’s capital to share best practices and showcase how Washington can help make a difference in Moreno Valley.

During the conference, we touched upon many different topics affecting Cities across the country. We spoke about expanding “earn while you learn” programs, which we already have right here in Moreno Valley in our MoVaLEARNS Mayor’s Challenge. We also talked about helping our local business owners hit hardest by the pandemic and expanding broadband initiatives.

We spoke about the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which has issued billions of dollars in Coronavirus relief funds to many Cities, who use them for different programs and projects. Here in Moreno Valley, we use our ARPA funds to bolster our public safety infrastructure and homelessness programs.

During his speech, the President noted that many cabinet members were former Mayors themselves.

“Mayors know the measure of success isn’t scoring partisan points,” he said. “It’s ‘Did you fix the problem.’”

No matter who is in the White House, Moreno Valley will continue to seek national support and attention for our programs, services, and residents in need. As your Mayor, my job each and every day is to ensure Moreno Valley continues to be a place where all our dreams soar.
