Mayor's Message: El Grito de Independencia

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

On September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo de Costilla called upon the Mexican people to rise against the oppression and inequality of Spanish rule. His Grito de Dolores was heard across the country and served as the catalyst for Mexico’s War of Independence.

On Thursday, September 15, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Civic Center Amphitheater, the Moreno Valley community will come together to celebrate his cry for freedom at El Grito de Independencia.

Not only is El Grito a celebration of Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month, but it also celebrates the power of community.

There will be delicious food, exciting local vendors, a youth fun zone, great music and Ballet Folklorico performances, a charro, and a live broadcast of El Grito from the National Palace in Mexico City.

This is an event you don’t want to miss!

The Civic Center Amphitheater is located at 14075 Frederick Street, next to the Conference & Recreation Center. More information can be found at www.moval.org/elgrito

Please come and join us for a beautiful evening outdoors in Moreno Valley. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes!
