Mayor's Message: Fireworks Are ILLEGAL

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Like many others across the country, Moreno Valley residents are eager to celebrate and be outdoors. Unfortunately, illegal fireworks become more prevalent this time of year, causing fires, destroying property, and taking lives. Nearly 200 people per day are injured or killed in fireworks-related incidents. Our region’s dry and warm weather makes the risk of illegal fireworks triggering wildfires all too real.

Make no mistake; fireworks are illegal in Moreno Valley. Our Fireworks Task Force, which includes Police, Fire, and Code Enforcement officers, are working hard to ensure our safety, and they are counting on all of us. Our families, neighbors, friends -- and even our four-legged friends – are not truly safe until we get illegal fireworks out of our neighborhoods. We can all play our part, even anonymously, by reporting violators to the Firework Task online at www.moval.org/fireworks or by calling 951-247-8700.

Those found with illegal fireworks can expect severe penalties, including steep fines, and could face criminal charges.

There is so much to look forward to this coming summer, including our safe and legal fireworks show as part of Moreno Valley’s 4th of July Parade and Family Fun Fest. We can all look forward to safe celebrations this season if we play our part in keeping illegal fireworks out of Moreno Valley.
