Mayor's Message: Keeping The Peace

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Saturday, May 15, was Peace Officer’s Memorial Day. Established in 1962 by President Kennedy, for nearly fifty years, it is a chance each year to reflect and remember those who have lost their lives while serving our communities as peace and safety officers.

I would like to take this opportunity and pay my respect to every officer we’ve lost and the families and fellow officers who forever keep their spirits alive.

I know firsthand how the Deputies at the Moreno Valley Station work tirelessly to serve and protect our community. They do far more than serve, because they are also part of our community; volunteers who are helping to beautify MoVal, school mentors, and little league coaches. They are family members, husbands, wives, parents, daughters, and sons.

They are part of what makes Moreno Valley the city where dreams soar.

Law enforcement is often a thankless job. As we engage in a national conversation about law enforcement, let’s remember the important role Moreno Valley peace officers play in our community. And if you are so compelled, please pause for a moment, and give thanks to those who serve today, and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
