Mayor's Message: The State of our City is Strong

By Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

There’s strong, and then there’s Moreno Valley strong. On August 19, during my 2021 State of the City Address, I had the privilege of sharing the many things we have accomplished together as a community, and how despite a pandemic, we have emerged stronger than ever.

In my annual address to the community, I had the opportunity to champion the great programs and services that strengthened our City during a time of crisis. Programs like Forward MoVal, saved our struggling small businesses. MoVal Rental Rescue has kept our renters safe and sheltered. MoVal Meals delivered food to our neighbors in need, and our “We’ve Got You Covered” program has distributed over 600,000 free masks and sanitizer bottles. Our Business & Employment Resource Center, or BERC, has remained open throughout the pandemic, offering critical job services for members of our community. These are just a few of the many actions I have taken as Mayor to turn a crisis into an opportunity to serve the community.

I also had the honor of recognizing these generous community members with this year’s Community Leadership Awards:

  • Healthcare Hero - Dr. Surya Reddy of Apple Urgent Care
  • Community Partner of the Year - al-Rahma Food Bank
  • Community Member of the Year - Miesha Slayton
  • Educator of the Year - Dr. Martinrex Kedziora
  • Excellence in Education - Dr. Angelo Farooq
  • Business of the Year - Harbor Freight Tools

I am immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished together. With exciting new developments on the horizon—including our Town Center and Community Aquatic Center—MoVal’s future is brighter than ever.

I invite you to view the entire State of the City address for yourself. You can watch it any time on our YouTube and Facebook pages, or catch it on our cable channel MV3.
