Mayor's Weekly Message 42

As we continue to celebrate a century of military achievement right here in Moreno Valley, we are also celebrating our military men and women who make those achievements happen.

What began as a dusty airstrip named Alessandro Field and staffed by just four people in 1917 evolved into March Air Force Base, one of the most strategic points in the Western United States during the Cold War.

For nearly 50 years, March was a Strategic Air Command Base. Now it is the largest and most active Reserve Base in the U.S. Air Force.

When disaster hits, our military men and women answer the cries for help. They race toward raging wildfires and massive floods. They search, rescue, and comfort. They defend our freedoms – and our ideals.

Nearly 10,000 people work at March Air Reserve Base. Many of their families live in Moreno Valley and their children attend our schools.

And after their military service to our country is done, thousands of veterans have chosen Moreno Valley as their home.

On November 3, the Moreno Valley Mall Branch Library is hosting a Veterans Fair to provide our veterans with the help they need.
