Mayor's Weekly Message: Reflecting on Our First 100 Days

By Ulises Cabrera
Mayor of Moreno Valley

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

As I reflect on my first 100 days in office, I know Moreno Valley is on the path to a stronger and brighter future.

Moreno Valley is growing each day. The City Council, City Staff, and I are working hard to bring quality programs, services, and amenities to the community.

We recently laid the foundation to create an Art Mural Program to transform the Moreno Valley landscape. We also held the first-ever Festival of Arts at the Civic Center Amphitheater, which provided an excellent opportunity for Moreno Valley artists to show their work.

We brought in new businesses that have enhanced our city lifestyle, including Texas Roadhouse, Kids Empire, and A Better You. We also welcomed B-ON, Moreno Valley’s second Electric Vehicle manufacturer. The future of EV production is right here in MoVal!

We started work on our $6 million Parks Rehabilitation & Refurbishment Program, the largest and most comprehensive parks project in the city’s history. Each of our 33 parks will receive upgrades that will allow them to stay beautiful well into the future. And our ongoing Beautify MoVal Community Days of Service has invited hundreds of community volunteers to help maintain the beauty of our parks.

We are also working hard to help end homelessness in Moreno Valley. We received a $2 million federal grant from Congressman Mark Takano to bolster our Homeless to Work and Rapid Rehousing programs. And the Council and I held a study session in February that allowed the community to offer ideas about assisting our homeless neighbors.

We launched the Catalytic Converter Tipline, which offers a credibility check to cut down on catalytic converter theft. We also received $56,000 from the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant fund to bolster our public safety initiatives.

And our Pavement Rehabilitation Program continues to beautify roads across our city. We have spent over $35 million on our roads so far, and phase one is 70 percent complete, with phase two well underway.

We’ve already done so much, but we’re just getting started. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the great City of Moreno Valley. Together, we will realize our potential as California’s most dynamic community.
