Moreno Valley and UCR Offer Informational Sessions for Business Owners and Entrepreneurs

The City of Moreno Valley, in partnership with the University of California, Riverside (UCR), will offer informational sessions on upcoming workshops aimed at helping small business owners and local entrepreneurs.

These sessions will gather information on what Moreno Valley business owners and entrepreneurs would like to learn for future in-depth workshops. The information collected will then be used to tailor these workshops to benefit MoVal’s entrepreneurial community.

Ultimately, the workshops aim to teach residents how to use today’s technology to grow their businesses, improve their products or service, streamline their daily operations, and successfully launch a new business with proven strategies and tactics.

“Many of today’s business owners and operators are struggling to stay on top of the ever-changing complexities and advancements in technology, particularly the small business owner,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “As a UCR alum, I’m excited to see the City and UCR collaborate on this educational program and look forward to seeing it grow and develop this year and beyond.”

The informational sessions will be held on Wednesday, July 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and on Wednesday, July 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the City of Moreno Valley’s Business and Employment Resource Center (BERC), located at 12625 Frederick Street, Suite K-3, in District 1.

The sessions will be facilitated by staff from UCR’s Entrepreneurial Proof of Concept and Innovation Center (EPIC) program and can be attended in person or via Zoom.

“With these workshops, our business and entrepreneur community will receive unprecedented assistance from the great minds at UC Riverside,” said District 1 Council Member Elena Baca-Santa Cruz. “Not only will these classes help our robust Moreno Valley business community, but these opportunities can help lift people out of poverty and provide a path to prosperity. I can't wait to see what this partnership brings."

First approved by the Moreno Valley City Council in April, the partnership with UCR’s EPIC program will provide Moreno Valley residents with entrepreneurial and business-related technical assistance via regular classes, quarterly workshops, and one-on-one entrepreneur consulting.

Moreno Valley’s BERC is one of California’s few America’s Job Centers, providing resources, workshops, classes, programs, and job fairs to help Moreno Valley residents land the perfect local job.

UC Riverside’s Office of Technology Partnerships uses university research and discoveries to provide entrepreneurial endeavors to students, faculty, and the community.
