Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh has announced her campaign to replace state Sen. Mike Morrell, a popular Inland Empire conservative leaving the legislature because of term limits.
“He’s been a great mentor,” Ochoa Bogh said of Morrell. “I want to continue his legacy.”
Ochoa Bogh, 47, a realtor and Yucaipa School Board member, is one of five candidates vying for Senate District 23.
Voter registration is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans. Voters will pick two candidates during the March 3 primary for the November election.
“Rosilicie understands the importance of creating jobs, the problems families face and issues of faith,” Morrell said as he endorsed Ochoa Bogh. “Rosilicie has a strong moral compass.”
The Republican Party of California, as well as the San Bernardino and Riverside County Republican parties, have also endorsed her.
“We’ve had one-party rule for 30 years,” Ochoa Bogh said of the Democrats’ commanding lock on Sacramento. “And we have seen dramatic worsening in the high cost of living and taxes.”
Ochoa Bogh is the daughter of naturalized American parents from Mexico. She graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1991 and earned her religious studies degree from University of California – Santa Barbara.
With regards to SB54, which prevents local and state officials from assisting federal deportations, “Sanctuary state policies do not protect legal residents nor immigrants. It only shelters those who commit serious crimes,” she said. “We do not need to have our state and federal government working against each other regarding violent criminals – whether they be immigrants or non-immigrants.”
Ochoa Bogh is married to Yucaipa City Councilmember Greg Bogh. They have three children.
“My children are our greatest accomplishment in life,” she said.
In 2018, Ochoa Bogh was chosen over six applicants to fill a vacancy in the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School Board. She was reappointed that same year after nobody opposed her.
Ochoa Bogh said her district found ways to mitigate controversial sexual education training California mandates for schools.
“We had nurses teach it from a factual perspective,” she said. “The graphics were subdued. Parents could opt out.”
Ochoa Bogh’s background as a realtor for 17 years will help her fight policies making the affordable housing crises worse.
She will also work to resolve the homelessness crisis, provide more opportunity for small businesses and enhance our community’s quality of life.
