Real Physical Medicine vs “Just Resting It”

By Dr. Abel A. Rendon, PT, DSc, DPT

Have you ever heard this? I have a pain/ache in my (ankle, knee or back). The first thing that is recommended is just to “rest IT.” Hoping that by not using that part of your body IT will magically go away and you will be “reset” to continue as usual like nothing ever happened.

But “IT” (back pain, foot pain, neck pain) doesn’t’ go away, does it?

IT continues, some days it is worse than others. Some days It’s so intense you might even go to urgent care or the ER due to pain, but you know in your heart you don’t want to because you have a good hunch that the same result will come as it did from the last visit:

“4-6 hours of time wasted to be given either a pain pill or an image that says you have nothing structurally wrong with you and then you should go visit your primary care practitioner who has scheduled out visits which are 4-6 weeks from now.”

Does that sound familiar?

Well, I have heard this 1,000 times over the last 13 years of clinical practice and I am here to make a MANIFESTO for my community. I must share this, and I am tired of being apologetic to others that feel the routine, or the standard care is doing something about “helping” people.

If rest was the key, wouldn’t that be nice, life would be a lot easier. But I see a lot of people who have taken time off from their ‘activity’ and the pain continues or worsens. In fact, the worse part is that the rest adds a significant negative to their overall health by not staying mobile and active, the way your body is meant to be. They increase in weight, decrease in mobility, decrease in strength, and decrease in confidence/independence to be part of their world.

PAIN IS A SIGNAL. Pain is a message from your nervous system. It doesn’t always come from the bones or a structural loss in your body. Pain can be influenced by the following issues:

• Blood vessels being compressed

• Myofascia Restrictions binding down on surrounding tissue

• Tendons which are so “tense” that normal lengthening is limited and inflammation is around it

• Muscles that are so compressed which impair normal contraction and lengthening limiting the use of that particular body part.

These are just a few of the top influences of pain signals in our body, but the process of solving where the original cause of your pain came from is where the real intervention of care should be aimed at, rather than just treating your symptom “Signal/ Pain.”

If you or a loved one suffers from chronic back pain, so bad that it can even stop you from walking, then reading this report maybe be the most important thing you do this year. It may unlock the agonizing mystery of your back pain and show you a way to get back to the life you deserve…

A life where you can’t sleep at night without tossing and turning, hoping to find one position where the pain stops.

A life where you can wake up in the morning and not take 10 minutes to get out of bed, and then another 10 minutes to put on your socks and shoes always restricted by a back so stiff and tight.

A life where you can pick up and play with your kids without worrying when your back is going to go out and leave you crippled on the floor

A life where you can do and enjoy all the things you see so many others doing and enjoying but your bad back has kept you watching from the sidelines.

Basically, a life without the curse of back pain.

If you’re currently seeing a medical professional, thinking about it or just don’t want to face the hassle of talking to your insurance, but still want to get some real help, then you need this free report about how to actually get to the bottom of your back pain without needing a referral from a doctor!
