On Saturday, August 8, the Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) hosted “Reunion Day,” a day to reconnect families with schools to prepare students for the first day of school.
Every school hosted an activity to welcome their families back on campus such as tours, magic shows, food trucks, music, carnival games, and free popcorn!
At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed a free concert by the Pacific Crest Drum Bugle Corps at Vista Del Lago High School.
“We had a wonderful time welcoming our families back to campus this weekend,” said Moreno Valley Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. “Our families were eager to see principals and teachers, look around their schools, and see what’s in store for the school year.”
Although there were already tons of fun activities on the weekend, it continued on! The district hosted an Ice Cream Drive-Through at Canyon Springs High School from 3:00–4:30 p.m. and Vista del Lago High School from 5:30–7:00 p.m.on Wednesday August 11, elementary school students were welcomed to their first day of school by district superheroes! District staff were dressed up in costumes to greet elementary school students with a smile and some cheer.
More than 31,000 students returned for in-person, on campus learning - the first time since March 2020. The health and safety of students and staff are a top priority. Schools have prepared for their arrival - upgrading air filtration systems, installing sanitizing stations, and stocking up on personal protective equipment. Students and staff are be required to face coverings while inside and will physical distance as much as practical.
“I am so proud of the work our schools and district have done in order to ensure our schools were ready to open safely for this school year,” said MVUSD School Board President Darrell Peeden. “With ever-changing guidance from the CDC, California Department of Public Health, and Riverside Public Health, it has been a challenge to keep up, but our district rose to the challenge and we are ready to open our doors.”
