SoCal Woman Shares Platform for Local Voices

For many people, 2020 was the year to forget, but for one local woman, it was the year to launch her passion project — SoCal Voices with Angela Ross — a local podcast featuring candid conversations exploring news, culture and politics impacting southern Californians.

“My goal with this podcast is to feature compelling stories about the people who call southern California home — stories that inspire listeners to take positive action to improve their lives and communities,” Ross said.

The first season of SoCal Voices featured conversations with musician Patrice Rushen, former State Senator and current member of the LA County Board of Supervisors Holly Mitchell, and mathematician Edray Goins. The second season features conversations with Noble Drakoln, a trading and commodities expert, best selling author and radio and television financial commentator, and Rima Nashashibi, founder and president of Global Hope 365, a nonprofit organization fighting child marriage and sex trafficking.

Ross launched the first season of SoCal Voices in September 2020 after summer protests against the Minneapolis, Minnesota police killing of George Floyd. In the racial reckoning that followed the protests, Ross saw some global brands and local businesses condemn the murder of Mr. Floyd while others remained silent. “The silence of some individuals and organizations in such an important moment bothered me. I launched the podcast to work through my own feelings about what happened and to highlight stories and perspectives that too often go unheard.” Ross said.

Ross, a native of Los Angeles, currently resides in Moreno Valley. She started her communications career in radio news in San Francisco and central California. She later transitioned to leading media, communications and public affairs divisions in government and healthcare.

SoCal Voices is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, including iHeart Radio’s Black Culture category, and Amazon Music.
