Supervisor's Weekly Message: Happy Women's History Month

Dear District 5 Residents,

March is Women's History Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history and recognize their ongoing struggles for equality and justice. This month provides an opportunity to commemorate the countless achievements of women who have made historical discoveries in various fields, including science, politics, literature, sports, and the arts.

President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8, 1980, National Women's History Week. On March 16, 1987, after further political action from women's groups, President Ronald Reagan issued Presidential Proclamation 5619, designating March as Women's History Month.

This year's Women's History Month theme is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories." It encourages the recognition of women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling, including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, news, and social media.

As we celebrate Women's History Month, let us honor and celebrate the remarkable contribution and vital role of women in our lives, communities, and American history. Let us continue to fight for equality, and justice, and support the ongoing struggles for women's rights.

Happy Women's History Month!
