Senior Dogs Get Much Needed Love

In an effort to boost the number of positive outcomes for senior dogs, the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter has launched the Lightning Lane Transfer Program in partnership with Haven Pet Center and sponsored in part by the Grey Muzzle Organization. Under the Lightning Lane Transfer Program, dogs seven years and older will receive treatment for all pre-existing medical conditions and be guaranteed a positive outcome, either through adoption at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter or transfer to Haven Pet Center. Moreno Valley is able to launch this program with the help of a $15,000 grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization.

The Lightning Lane Transfer Program is an exciting new program that increases the adoptability of senior dogs. Senior dogs make excellent pets, but they are often passed over at shelters in favor of younger animals with fewer pre-existing health conditions. The program improves senior dogs’ chances of adoption by providing treatment for all their medical needs, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, dental care, and more. Once pets in the program have received treatment, they will remain adoptable at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter at a discounted rate until they are able to be transferred to, and made adoptable at, Haven Pet Center in San Jacinto, CA.

Reasons to consider adopting a senior dog through the Lightning Lane Transfer Program include:

·     Seniors make sweet, loving pets

·     Skipping the destructive puppy phase

·     Lower energy needs and less training

·     No surprises – pets are up-to-date on medical care with current bloodwork results

·     Discounted adoption rate at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter
