On Saturday, August 19, residents from the Hidden Springs Community of the City of Moreno Valley took the opportunity to thank the Moreno Valley firefighters who helped save their homes and properties from the Blaine Fire.
The Blaine Fire started in Riverside County on Sunday, August 13, and quickly spread toward the City of Moreno Valley and the unincorporated areas of Pigeon Pass, threatening hundreds of homes. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for residents of Hidden Springs and Pigeon Pass.
Firefighters from Moreno Valley Fire Department and CALFIRE/Riverside County were able to fully contain the fire after four days. Not a single house was lost in the firefight, despite flames coming dangerously close to homes.
The City’s Police Department, Public Works Street Maintenance Division and Riverside County Emergency Management Department assisted in the evacuation efforts.
Battalion Chief Mark League met with the residents of the Hidden Springs Community to accept the water, cookies, snacks, fruit, and thank you cards that were graciously donated by the residents. Those donations were then distributed to firefighters involved in the firefight.
