Debra Craig Announces Candidacy for District 2 Seat

Following her efforts to recall a city council member she felt wasn’t making the right decisions for the city, resident Debra Craig said she is running to represent Moreno Valley’s District 2 this November to “make Moreno Valley a better place to live.” “That’s when I decided I wanted to be part of the solution in helping Moreno Valley become the first-rate community it has the potential to become,” Craig said. “That meant I needed to run for city council.” Craig, who has been a teacher for 17 years, said she has planning and organizational skills that could help the city, and running a community Facebook page for the last year and a half has shown her devotion to “educating and communicating with the public,” Craig felt. “I am passionate about improving the quality of life for citizens and creating a Moreno Valley we can all be proud of living in,” Craig said. Craig, who holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational communications from Colorado Women’s College in Denver, said she wants to see several changes to the city, including: proactive councilmembers, grants to assist homeowners in repairing fencing, faster response to street and road maintenance, creating a business-friendly city, better communication between the city government and residents, and helping the city become a leader in drought-tolerant landscaping, Craig said. If elected, Craig said she would like to continue seeing a fiscally responsible city, televised study sessions, family-oriented events such as the summer concerts and movies in the park series, monthly reports made available online by the city manager, and quick response to graffiti removal. Craig said that, if elected, she would bring “enthusiasm, ideas for improving the city and passion for making changes” to the dais. “My main goal for the city is to improve the quality of life for all citizens…” Craig said. “I want people to be proud to say they live in Moreno Valley.” Craig runs against eight other opponents for the seat, including Marcia Amino, Luke Fuller, Jeffrey Giba, Alvin Horn, Corey Jackson, Glenn Jacobs, Madelene Muntz and Charles Roberts.
