On January 5, 2014, the Riverside Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity celebrated their 103rd anniversary at the home of Fraternity Brother Larry Clayton. Over 25 Brothers and their wives, the Silhouettes, attended the occasion. Founded on January 5, 1911 on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity followed time honored traditions of passing the Loving Cup as a symbol of re-dedication to the Fraternity from the eldest members (Brothers) initiated in as early as 1956, to the newest members (Neophytes) who had more recently joined in 2013. The Loving Cup ceremony refocuses the members to dedication to outstanding achievement in every field of human endeavor. Chapter Polemarch Dr. Samuel Gibbs sliced two cakes specially made for the occasion and Chapter Historian Alvin Stephens shared past accomplishments of the group. “The March and Norton Air Force Bases were going strong during the Riverside’s Chapter history,” said Stephens, “Brothers would be stationed in, and then mustered out, but we were successful in gaining great recognition for our community service projects.” On the heels of the 103rd anniversary celebration, on January 25, over 20 members of the Riverside Alumni Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity came together at the Los Angeles Metro Founders Day event in Los Angeles. Former Major League Baseball player Don Buford the keynote speaker at the Founders Day event, encouraged all members with the stories of his personal path to achievement in the field of sports.
