Moreno Valley Unified School District Board Member Gary Baugh seeks re-election to the board this November, and he wants to “continue the good work that is being accomplished in the district,” Baugh said. Baugh was elected to the MVUSD board to serve a four year term from 1998-2002, serving as president for one year. In 2013, Baugh was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board and in November 2013 was elected to a one-year term. “If elected, I will keep improving the district’s upward academic progress,” Baugh said. “I would work for increasing career technical programs, music in the elementary schools and more STEM offerings.” STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education, places emphasis on these skills and areas of knowledge. Baugh said he will “continue to work toward increasing graduation rates, now at 81.2 percent, up from 65 percent.” Baugh is a former educator who has taught at the high school and university levels, earning a bachelors degree in English and education from Brigham Young University, a masters degree in English from the University of Denver and an EdS in educational administration from Troy State University. He had 22 year career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lt. Colonel from March Air Force Base in 1989. “If re-elected, I will bring honesty, transparency, experience and integrity to the board,” Baugh said. “I love collaboration with…stakeholders, such as the teachers and classified unions who support me. My main goal is to continue the progress we have made as a board by working well together for the benefit of our students…We want to prepare our students to be successful in achieving their educational, career and life goals.” Baugh said he also wants to help the board achieve its five-year plan goals, including identifying the need for additional facilities including libraries, multipurpose rooms, restrooms and more; and identifying the need for future elementary, middle and high schools to accommodate growth, to name a few. Other candidates for MVUSD School Board are incumbents Jesus Holguin and Cleveland Johnson, who also seek re-election; and Delorise Anderson.
