March Field Air Museum featured a discussion of the B-17 "Flying Fortress" Bomber on Saturday, Aug. 18 as a part of its Summer 2014 Briefings series.
Retired Royal Air Force Flight Lieutenant and World War II veteran Ken Wright gave an in-depth look at the plane, its development, and its many uses in WWII to air enthusiasts.
One of the B-17's main advantages is its ability to climb to a high altitude and according to Lt. Wright, "It flew at thirty to thirty three thousand feet, which was a long way up in those days."
Flight Lt. Ken Wright, native of Stirling, Scotland, was fifteen when the war started and enlisted in the Royal Air Force as soon as he was eighteen.
He said, "You had to volunteer to get in the air crew." He trained in Canada before serving in the latter part of WWII.
The March Field Air Museum Summer 2014 Briefings continues for two more weeks, with presentation being held at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
