MORENO VALLEY>> On Friday, March 24, 2017, the Moreno Valley Police Department arrested a 52-year-old black female in the 12000 block of Perris Boulevard. She was using scare tactics to convince local businesses to purchase a poster, reportedly on behalf of a regulatory agency. The female entered the businesses and claimed to represent the regulatory agency. She then claimed that some obscure law requires every business to possess a poster containing certain information. She offered to sell the businesses the required poster, so the businesses can be in compliance with the law. If the businesses declined to purchase the poster, the female was more forceful, and threatened the businesses with the possibility of heavy fines. If you believe you were victimized by this suspect or her associates, the Moreno Valley Police Department encourages all possible victims to report it to MVPD. If you encounter someone attempting a similar scam, please contact MVPD at (951) 247-8700 or 911 to report the fraudulent activity. "We need to stay vigilant and prevent this scam from gaining traction in the city," a news release from the police department states. "The Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce has local businesses' best interest and wants to ensure you are aware of any fraudulent activity. Please contact the Chamber if you have any questions regarding regulations, we are more then willing to assist in providing local, state, and federal regulatory information."
