“This is progress,” Moreno Valley Mayor Pro Tem Jesse L. Molina began his speech during the Sept. 30 unveiling of the completed punch-through of Eucalyptus Avenue and the existing eastbound Interstate 60 on and off ramps. “Businesses need to prosper and citizens need to be reassured that jobs will be available. We’re going to put this city on the map.”
Along with those new additions, a new traffic light was also installed.
The project was ongoing for slightly over a year in the effort to foster the growth of surrounding businesses, improve traffic flow and create ease and convenience for area travelers.
In August, phase one of the project neared completion and phase two is slated to begin shortly.
Phase two will focus on north and west side improvements, and plans for a new bridge are also in the works. The new bridge will be five feet higher than the current bridge and will make wider the narrow structure. All the right-of-way has already been acquired.
Many groups came together to make possible the $10 million project including CalTrans, Western Riverside Council of Governments, Southern California Edison and The Successor Agency of the City of Moreno Valley just to name a few.
With better circulation through an area with plenty of stores and goods, hopes are high that the city can continue to deliver projects that will make a positive impact on residents and the growth of businesses within the city.
