Habitat For Humanity, San Bernardino Area held a “Wall Raising” event on Saturday July 21 in Grand Terrace for two new homes being built on Michigan Street.  37 volunteers worked from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, under the supervision of licensed contractors (and under extreme heat), to build the frames for these homes. These volunteers included family members working side by side with corporate sponsors and local community groups.  The invocation was given by Pastor Edgy Gallegos of Living Word Inland Empire, with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Lions Club President Becky Giroux.

Prior to the work beginning, presentations were given by Congressman Pete Aguilar, Grand Terrace Mayor Darcy McNaboe, and Daniel Peeden from Assemblywoman Eloise Reyes’ office.

Mayor McNaboe said "The Habitat wall raising not only signified considerable progress on a project that has languished since the City Redevelopment Agency provided the land in 2011, it served as a great team building experience for those who participated. I enjoyed having the opportunity to work alongside Grand Terrace Lions Club members, Habitat staff, the Habitat families, members from Living Word Inland Empire, as well as employees of the day's sponsors Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America. What a wonderful way to build community and welcome two families to the City."

Representative Aguilar, whose district includes Grand Terrace, shared stories of his history with Habitat For Humanity. “Home ownership is a major part of the American dream, and I’m proud that we were able to help these families move closer to achieving that dream,” said Rep. Aguilar. He continued, “Habitat For Humanity will always have a special place in my heart, and I’m so grateful for the hard work of the staff and volunteers who are helping families in our community find places to call home.”

Grading and foundation work began on the two homes this past April. They are projected to be completed this October, with the families moving in soon thereafter.
