On Saturday, April 29, The City of Moreno Valley participated in a delegation led by Assemblymember Dr. Corey A. Jackson to tour the Courtyards at Cottonwood, one of the City’s premier affordable housing communities.
The delegation included Assembly Speaker-Designate Robert Rivas, Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gomez Reyes, and Mayor Ulises Cabrera. Courtyards at Cottonwood developer Jim Jernigan of Rancho Belago Developers, Inc led the tour and shared the history and progress of the affordable housing community.
“I was honored Speaker Designate Rivas was able to see firsthand the incredible work Moreno Valley is doing regarding economic development, cultural heritage, and inclusive housing,” said Mayor Cabrera. “His visit highlights the importance of investing in our communities to create a better future for all. I want to thank Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson for organizing and attending this tour.”

The Courtyards at Cottonwood has become a regional model for effective and desirable inclusive housing. Phase One, which opened in June 2022, is an 81-unit gated community with 60 units for lower-income families and 20 for lower-income seniors.
Phase Two is currently under construction and will feature 32 additional lower-income units.
The Courtyards at Cottonwood is a prime example of how Moreno Valley is doing its part to provide inclusive housing for lower-income families and seniors. The City is among a handful of municipalities with a certified housing element and recently applied for a pro-housing designation.
The Courtyards at Cottonwood were made possible through a public-private partnership between the City of Moreno Valley, the County of Riverside, Rancho Belago Developers, Inc., Kingdom Development, Inc., and CREA, LLC.
