MORENO VALLEY>> North Ridge Elementary School students and staff took time recently to celebrate their newest program, Code to the Future. The school will be Riverside County’s first Computer Science Immersion School integrating computer coding into the daily curriculum.

Students at the school will now have the opportunity to learn the basics of computer coding and will help students develop more skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills.

Students were thrilled when Principal Dr. Cassaundra McNair announced the program and described all of the new tools they will be using in the classroom, especially Scratch and Minecraft.

At the school’s Back-to-School Night parents were just as enthusiastic about the program that could lead students to a future in an industry that anticipates a significant shortage of qualified employees in the future.

“North Ridge will be a trendsetter in the county with a program like this,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. “By implementing Code to the Future, we can guide students toward graduation with strong 21st century skills.”
